Our Story
When we lost our beloved Mom and Grandma, we knew we wanted to start a charity in her honor. Grandma Bonnie volunteered her entire life. She was President of the PTA, attended all her daughters’ school functions, participated with First Junior’s Women’s Club, volunteered with the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, the Ronald McDonald House and anywhere when anyone asked her to help. We just didn’t know what our specific mission would be – because she had so many.
Then, the day of her funeral arrived. It was an absolutely perfect day and beautiful ceremony. Sadly everything changed when the service ended and her daughter and grandchildren were driving to the funeral reception. They received notifications from the security cameras at their home that their home was being burglarized! Grandma Bonnie had lived with her daughter Caryn and her grandson Xander and granddaughter Zoe for the last 3 and a half years. The home had never been empty. There were always teenagers, caretakers and friends in and out of the house.
Who would ever imagine their home would be burglarized, ransacked and violated when they were at a funeral mourning the loss of a loved one. Well, it happened to this family. And apparently, as it turns out, this is NOT an uncommon thing. Thankfully, the police acted quickly and were able to catch the 2 criminals and recover some of the family’s belongings. It wasn’t the first time. These criminals had stolen from others while they were attending a loved ones funeral.
Caryn, Dara, Xander and Zoe immediately knew how to honor Grandma Bonnie’s heart of service and Grandma Bonnie’s Angels was born! In the days that followed this terrible tragedy on tragedy, Caryn attended the court hearing and began speaking to the media. She knew she had to get the message out there so others would be aware that they needed to protect their homes while they were attending funerals of loved ones. And they wanted to help provide this service to families in need.
